Assures that policies and procedures of the school district adhere to the current standards of the SC Board of Nursing and the Nurse Practice Act and are correctly implemented throughout the school district. Maintains records of reported blood borne pathogen exposure incidents and hazardous medical waste generator permit. Coordinates and maintains records and reports as required by the school district policy and state agencies. Confers with nursing staff, parents, teachers, and school administrators in the provision of health care for students with medical conditions. Serves as a liaison between school, community, public and private health agencies. Participates in IEP and 504 meetings as needed. Protects confidentiality of health records while performing professional duties and uses discretion in sharing such information within legal confines. Collaborates with college/university faculty to provide clinical experience for student nurses. Coordinates with public health officials in reporting communicable disease(s). Provides assistance in managing infectious illness outbreaks as necessary. Conducts interviews for new school nurses and makes recommendations to Human Resources for hiring. Provides orientation and ongoing support for school nurses. Supervises nursing staff, monitor attendance, and conducts an annual performance evaluation. Visits schools as needed to provide supervision and support for health services. Provides direct school-based nursing services if needed when assigned nurse is absent. Serves as administrator of the Healthmaster electronic medical record for nurses. Serves on district Crisis/Safety Team and Comprehensive Health Education Advisory Committee. Assumes responsibility for own professional development. Performs duties that are within the scope of employment and licensure, not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation, as assigned by the Chief Operation and Student Services Officer. JOB SPECIFICATIONS EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: BS in Nursing; post-secondary education recommended; minimum of five years of nursing experience; recent experience as a school nurse in South Carolina preferred. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
